Contemplate Before You React, Pause Before You Respond!
By Justin V Gates
When confronted with darkness, injustice, or cruelty, the natural response is immediate reaction. Anger rises. Fear pushes us forward. The urge to retaliate or defend ourselves can feel justified in the moment.
But the wisdom of Ashla teaches a deeper principle. When we react carelessly to evil, we risk becoming part of the very cycle we are ready to oppose. Axiom of Light: “When evil is present, contemplate thought, motive, and action for acting or reacting impulsively will align you with evil. Evil feeds on evil, and in time, it will feed on everything connected to it.”
These things thrive on our knee jerk reactions. They feed upon anger, aggression, resentment, and hostility. When these emotions govern our actions, they multiply the very forces we wish to defeat. Darkness grows stronger when it is met with more darkness.
The Luminari therefore practice contemplation before action. The all-powerful Pause.
Before responding, pause. Examine your thoughts. Examine your motives. Ask yourself whether your actions will bring greater harmony or contribute to further conflict. This moment of reflection creates the space necessary for wisdom to guide your response.
Self-awareness becomes the guardian of reason. When we observe our thoughts without judgment, clarity emerges. Compassion replaces resentment. Wisdom replaces impulse.
The Code reminds us:
Emotion; yet Peace.
Chaos; yet Harmony.
These remind us that our emotions are real, but they must not control our actions.
When evil is present, the path of Light requires discipline. Justice may still be necessary. Courage may still be required. Yet these actions must arise from clarity rather than vengeance. When guided by compassion, patience, and wisdom, we break the cycle that allows evil to multiply. By refusing to feed darkness, we weaken its influence and strengthen the presence of Light in the world.
